Madison Square Garden is the world’s most famous arena. Over the years the Arena has had a very cordial relationship with the WWE. At the moment, rumours have it that AAA will be running an event at Madison Square Garden later in the year. For decades, WWE has solely controlled the arena in terms of hosting its shows there.
If PWInsider’s Mike Johnson is correct, the management of Madison Square Garden is unhappy with the WWE. This reportedly is because WWE has been holding its TV shows and PPV events at a nearby competing arena, Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
The point that broke the camel’s back seems to be the recent announcement by the WWE that the Wrestlemania 35 week events next year would be held at the Barclays Center. These events will include the NXT TakeOver, the WWE Hall of Fame Induction ceremony, and RAW, and SmackDown Live shows.
According to reports, WWE’s choice of holding bigger shows or events at Barclays Centre instead of Madison Square Garden (MSG) is because of cost, as it’s way cheaper; leaving only about two events or a little above that number at MSG.
MSG has reportedly sent feelers to different organizations, and are now very ready to host other non-WWE events in the arena than ever before.
