Paige becoming the new SmackDown Live GM came as a surprise to many fans, just a night after her retirement from in-ring competition. It has appeared that WWE had kept this plan secret from not just the fans, but from the former WWE Divas Champion.

Paige had a chat recently on Edge and Christian’s E&C’s Pod Of Awesomeness podcast where she discussed her sudden retirement speech on Raw, how she’s been handling her new GM position and more.

On being appointed as the new SmackDown Live GM?

Paige revealed that she had no prior knowledge before her name was penciled for the job and was only told by the officials to be present on Tuesday night without being given a hint to what her role was going to be on the show. She said;

“I got to SmackDown the next day, Road Dogg, along with my writing team surround me and I was thinking, ‘Oh my God, am I about to be beat up. Do I owe you money?’ It was then they told me I was going to be the SmackDown General Manager, but don’t tell anyone”

Recall that Paige suffered a neck injury in December 2017, and on RAW after Wrestlemania 34, she announced her official retirement.
